FRIDAY, OCTOBER 16th

CAR TOUR

The cost of renting a bus would have made the per/person tour fee prohibitive. Therefore, on Friday, October 16th a car caravan is offered. The Association encourages carpooling and the driver of each car in the caravan will be given $20 toward their gas expense.

For those wishing to caravan, we will depart from the shelter area west of the Limon Heritage Museum. The first stop will be in Arriba, to hear the Arriba/Frontier City story, then on to Genoa to tour the recently re-opened World View Tower (entrance fee $7.00 /person.)

By 12:15, we should be back in Limon for lunch, which will be on your own. There are several eating establishments in Limon, but you might consider the Southside Restaurant and Bar in downtown Limon.

After our stop for lunch in Limon we proceed to River Bend Station and then Limon Heritage Museum.

The next stop will be the Hedland House Museum, the Willow Springs and Hogan B.O.D. stage station sites on the Smoky Hill Trail.

Registrants may desire to visit other sites of their choosing.

The Cottonwood Connection Episode “Riding the Smoky Hill Trail” takes viewers along the historic Butterfield Overland Despatch route, featuring expert discussions and stagecoach reenactments.

JERE DEBAKER, a descendant of David Butterfield, will be on hand providing additional commentary and he will be glad to answer any questions you may have.
